Elisa Secure Mail - ensuring the confidentiality of email communication.
Receiving messages does not require any software installations on workstations. The software converts the email into a format that can be read with a web browser, temporarily stores the secure message, and sends the recipient a notification with a secure link through which the actual message can be read. After 14days, the message will be deleted and restoration is not possible. The Secure Mail service stores the messages sent to it in its own database and sends a notification of the new encrypted message to the designated recipient's email.
To use the Securemail a routing rule is created in the organization's existing email system that redirects selected emails to Elisa's Secure Mail service. This is done by Elisa if possible, otherwise customer needs to add the connector by themselves.
The recipient can access the encrypted message via a web browser from the provider's Secure Mail service. Traffic to the Secure Mail service is always conducted through an encrypted connection. The service is based on SSH technology and is produced from Elisa's data center so all data that is stored in Securemail will be stored in Finland.
The sender determines the security level used for sending the message:
At the “Letter” level, message traffic is automatically secured with SSL encryption, and the message is locked using SSH MessageLock™ technology.
At the “Registered Letter” level, in addition, the recipient is authenticated using SMS authentication. Practically, when the recipient opens the message, the system requests a PIN code, which is simultaneously sent as a text message to the recipient's mobile phone.
